Geotechnical Testing Services

Big Sky Subsurface operates a geotechnical testing laboratory including state of the art, microprocessor controlled consolidation and strength testing equipment for one-dimensional consolidation, direct shear, unconfined compressive strength and triaxial shear testing.  The company also provides backpressure saturated permeability testing, electrochemical properties determinations; as well as physical properties testing including particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, moisture-density relationships, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), and concrete compressive strength testing.  Field testing capabilities include Time Domain Reflectometry, field CBR, modulus, and pile load testing.  Big Sky Subsurface has designed and constructed a data acquisition system for collecting load test data and owns equipment capable of field compression and tension testing for rock bolts, soil nails, micropiles, and piles up to 400 kips with the ability to test higher capacity piles with leased loading equipment.  Big Sky Subsurface is the only geotechnical consulting firm in Montana with large-scale, automated load testing equipment.  These diverse and cutting edge investigation, testing, and analysis capabilities give Big Sky Subsurface the ability to provide a wide range of quality geotechnical engineering services to our clients.  Our dedication and innovative approach to our projects are keys to our long-standing success.
